Barna Log Homes & Hope For Chattanooga building log home for Katrina Refugees
Barna Log Homes & Hope For Chattanooga have partnered to build a log home for a Hurricane Katrina family. The Crandall's came to Chattanooga looking for temporary housing, but after meeting local folks and experiencing our southern hospitility, they decided to make Chattanooga home.
Barna Log Homes has committed to provide all the materials needed to dry-in the house including the logs, windows, doors, sub floors & roof system. Additional funds and/or donations are needed to purchase finish materials, a lot on which to build and labor to complete the project. Joe Folsom (the local Barna Log Home Representative) says, "We are planning to kick off the project with an old fashion log raising where everyone pitches in and the community comes together to begin building the home".

Barna Log Home Institute Class Schedule (Click Here To Register)
The Barna Log Home Institute provides a practical curriculum, including dealing with financial institutions, planning and zoning agencies, contractors and sub-contractors followed by the hands on construction of a two story log home structure. The course covers reading plans and log construction drawings, log wall erection and fastening, wiring a log home, exposed beam floor and roof construction and allowance for settling. Other topics addressed include mortgage and construction financing, insurance and log home maintenance. Classes are kept small so that individual attention can be given to all participants. The course instructors are experienced contractors with years of experience in log home construction. A step-by-step process is covered regarding the use of all tools, equipment, safety wear, take home construction manual and detail drawings.
Registration is open to anyone interested in building a log home and may be especially helpful to builders who have not built a log home before. Class size is limited, so register today before classes fill up! To register for the class, please click here.
