Barna Log Homes Builds Dream Home For Katrina Refugees

Jud & Marie Crandall (both in their seventies and married for 51 years) along with their daughter Kim lived in Bay St. Louis, a small town on the far western coastline of Mississippi until their home was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005.  Just before the storm hit, the Crandall's boarded up their home and headed East to visit family until the storm passed. 

Returning to Bay St. Louis a few days latter they found complete devastation of their home and the neighborhood. Not knowing where to turn they traveled back East in search for a hotel room and a place to stay.  Passing through Chattanooga along their way, they were taken by the "Southern Hospitality" we enjoy in this part of the country and decided to stay for a while.  

Looking for something to do they happed into Bennett's and met Joe Folsom, the local Barna Log Home Broker who has his office inside this rustic interior decor center.  Taken by what they had just gone through, Joe began pondering how he could help and asked them to come back in where he explained he wanted to build them a log home to replace the one they lost.  The plan was to use the modest funds the Crandall's got from their home owners insurance and supplement what was needed from local suppliers to build them a log home of their dreams here in Chattanooga.   

The Crandall Log Home Project Team began to take shape.  Barna Log Homes donated the logs, windows, doors, sub floor, porches, decks & structural roof system.  Bennett's donated the flooring, cabinets & lighting.  Superior Walls donated the basement.  Rustic Structure Supply donated the lot.  Absolute Appliance is donating the appliances and Hope for Chattanooga became the project management team for collecting contributions and coordinating local churches to assist withvolunteers for the log raising events.
